UK TOUR 2009

GLASGOW

Heavy Rains Don't Dampen Dutch Mood

26 May – At Tuesday, a Panna tournament was held on Glasgows George Square with the final determined by another fast Panna (nutmeg while retaining possession). Ultimately, about 60 people entered the street football tournament in Glasgow.

Dutch Panna Knock Out is a new form of street football from Holland. Panna is the Surinamese/Dutch slang for playing the ball through the legs of your opponents. This grass roots phenomenon originated on the streets of Amsterdam and is highly successful in fostering (cross) community cohesion.

In Glasgow the weather was decidedly more forgiving as George Square saw the boys teach Glaswegians the tricks of the trade in many clinics and demonstrations. Of course there was also a tournament, won by the aptly named Sean Rooney. Lets see if he does as well as his namesake.

The next Panna tournament will be the UK Finals of Dutch Panna Street Football on Sunday May 31 in London at the Emirates Stadium Platform.
